Meeting the Queen of Fashion, Anna Wintour
"Social media is great but don’t let it be a substitute for living."
Last Friday, January 29, I was given the amaaaazing opportunity to meet Anna Wintour. YES! THE ANNA WINTOUR! I was ecstatic when my uni teacher said we are going to see her in the flesh -insert iPhone love heart emoji-
A sneak peak of Anna backstage! |
The show started with Katherine Viner, Editor in chief of the Guardian giving a speech followed by Anna where she gave many inspirational quotes towards the younger generation many about social media:
"You don’t want to spend your entire life clicking and liking.
I’m struck these days by how often people come up to me and ask to take a photograph, instead of shaking hands, meeting one’s eyes and having an actual conversation.
Even at the shows, people are so busy documenting the moment, they forget to actually look at the clothes in front of them."
After the speeches, there was a a Q&A where members of the audience were allowed to ask Anna questions.
Following from this, Billie Marten, a 17 year old singer songwriter played two live acoustic tracks. I thought the songs were so beautifully written and I will definitely be purchasing her tracks. Her style is very folky and she has been cited as the one to watch by BBC Introducing.
The catwalk then started with soundtrack music by Jack Savidige of Friendly Fires and Gbenga from Metronomy.
Overall, I thought the night was really fun. Despite being told of a champagne reception when infact it was a cup of buckfizz, the journey was okay (for once I never broke down) and the atmosphere was incredible.
Here are a few of my own images and videos from the night.
